Grape Republic

Established in 2017 in Nanyo City, Yamagata, Grape Republic arrived with a clear philosophy and an uncommon method. The commitment to purity is absolute: no herbicides, no pesticides, no fertilizers in the vineyard; no additives, no commercial yeast in the cellar. The resulting wines are equally pure, clean, and aromatic.

One of the features of Grape Republic's winemaking process is their use of amphora. They employ 17 amphoras, some as large as 1000L, making it one of the largest of such facilities in Japan. This ancient method, dating back 8000 years, allows for a natural fermentation process and a distinct profile, resulting in wines that are often described as being "more grape-like than the grape itself."

Grape Republic's understanding of terroir extends beyond soil and climate to encompass the people, culture, and history of a place. The winery sees the delicate, aromatic nature of Japanese grapes as a distinct strength. The portfolio spans whites, oranges, rosés, and reds, from both Japanese varieties (Delaware, Niagara, Steuben, Muscat Bailey A) and European grapes.
