Torocco Winery

Torocco Winery is located in Hokuto City, Hokkaido, with views of Mt. Hakodate, where it began in 2021 by taking over a former fruit orchard known as "Frontier." The name Torocco evokes the image of a small railcar, slow, steady, and purposeful: a symbol of the winery's belief in patient, meaningful progress.
Ten varieties of wine grapes have been planted, including Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Riesling. Alongside the vines, the estate continues the orchard's legacy, cultivating five types of fruit, — cherries, prunes, soldam plums, ume, and apples, across roughly 200 fruit trees. The previous orchard owner, Ogawa-san, and the Oshima regional development office have worked closely with the team as they learn to steward this land.
The winery building itself, constructed from locally sourced Donan cedar, with each plank hand-nailed by craftsmen, was completed in August 2024. Before that, Torocco's early wines were made under contract in Iwamizawa, Hokkaido, and their first release since then, an Acolon sparkling red wine made from Yoichi-grown grapes, was brewed there under guidance.
Torocco is a winery at the very beginning of its story — but one already rooted in community, gratitude, and care for the land it inherited. Though still in its early stages, Torocco Winery continues to grow—guided by nature, shaped by time, and grounded in the belief that good wine begins with care for the land.
